Hi! I’m Emily.

I’m a California-native who’s been living abroad for the past 8 years. I’m a freelance copywriter, amateur photographer, and full-time foodie who loves traveling and eating. Between meals I enjoy being in the ocean, learning about ancient history, and hiking to see breathtaking views.

A little about me

I’ve been lucky enough to call some pretty incredible places “home” over the past years. From trying the most amazing and authentic foods to making unforgettable new friends, I’ve been blessed with some unique experiences, including:

  • Skydiving over paradise in Oahu Hawaii after moving to this beautiful island to “study” (but mostly hike, eat, and snorkel)…

  • Learning Spanish in Spain as a service missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints…

  • Road-tripping solo down the coast of California in my trusty RAV4 (eating, surfing, and exploring along the way)…

  • Eating my way through Peru—and hiking 4 days on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, almost dying trekking up the Rainbow Mountain, and seeing the Nazca lines from the sky…

  • Teaching English in Colombia (and dancing onstage in front of the entire school as the queen of Carnaval)…

  • Traveling solo through Mexico and visiting Chichen Itza, eating too many tacos, and cliff diving in cenotes along the way…

  • Getting married on a beautiful beach in Santa Marta, Colombia to my husband, Pedro…

  • Scootering along the Amalfi Coast in Italy, eating pizza in Naples, and visiting the Colosseum in Rome…

  • Moving to a coastal town in Spain with my husband, Pedro and exploring Europe up-close…

My type of travel

Everyone travels differently. I travel mostly just to eat. I also love seeing the authentic side of every place I go to.

If you’re looking for advice for which five-start hotel or all-inclusive resort to stay in, this might not be the best source of info for you.

But if you’re a little adventurous and looking for the best places to eat that fit in a moderate budget in some of the coolest places in the world, welcome. This is your guide to eating right, all over the world.

My restaurant recommendations

I don’t use AI writing or images. Everything you see here is authentically me—ideas, reccomendations, photos, unfiltered opinions, Em dashes, and all.

And, as a mentor of mine has said, “typos are my gift to you.” But I hope to share with you an even more valuable gift: the gift of enjoying delicious meals, no matter where you are in the world.

We live in a world of AI-generated content. But, guess what? AI doesn’t have taste buds (yet…). So, before you take culinary advice from a clanker, maybe rethink letting ChatGPT decide where you’ll eat on your hard-earned vacation.

I don’t take eating lightly. One of the greatest disappointments in life (in my humble opinion) is spending your hard-earned money on a meal that’s just meh. Frustration is reluctantly taking out your card to pay the check while thinking: “I could have made something better in my own kitchen.”

That’s the type of disappointment I aim to help you avoid.

In Between Meals

This website’s main goal is to provide food recommendations for places all over the world. From Peru and Colombia to Spain and Italy, you’ll find restaurant recommendations, what to order, and the must-try foods you’ll love in each country.

Every once in a while I’ll also share things to do, places to see, and fun activities you can enjoy in between meals.
