Walking the streets of Trujillo, Peru, I was in foodie heaven.
To my right, a pollería (Peruvian rotisserie chicken restaurant); to my left, a homemade stand next to someone’s front door with sweet treats like arroz con leche and mazamorra morada. The smell of grilled meat drifts through the air as I pass by a vendor on a street corner selling anticuchos (grilled beef heart).
Oh, and all for just a few dollars—or soles (Peru’s currency).
But here’s the thing about Peru: It’s HARD to find good restaurants using only Google Maps. A lot of really good restaurants (including the ones I recommend in this foodie guide) actually have horrendous photos on Google—nightmarish, even. The photos might deter you from trying these delicious, authentic, and affordable spots.
